The artwork of a late Eel River Valley resident is helping patients at Redwood Memorial Hospital heal. The family of local artist Lindy Woodworth has donated a Chinese brush painting completed by Woodworth before she passed away last year.
The painting, which depicts a bouquet of sweet peas, is displayed in room 25 at Redwood Memorial so patients and staff alike can enjoy it. Before her passing, Woodworth expressed her desire to donate a piece of her artwork but fell ill before choosing a specific piece, so the family designated friend Lauri Rose, who is a nurse at the hospital, to select a piece of art from the late artist’s collection of work.
“Artwork can be an important element in the healing process and a part of our Journey at Redwood Memorial,” said Linda Biondini, manager of the hospital’s Medical-Surgical and Short Stay units. “While curing is not always possible, healing is, and we hope this artwork helps patients travel further on the path to wellness.”
Biondini added that artwork is not often donated to the hospital and that she is especially grateful to the Woodworth family and to the artist for helping Redwood Memorial be a better healing environment for other patients.
